Nixxy, Inc. and Tachyon 9 Corporation have announced plans for the Nakota Data Campus, a $1 billion AI infrastructure project in North Dakota designed to bypass traditional grid and water constraints. The facility aims to deliver up to 1 gigawatt of compute capacity using on-site hydrogen-capable power generation and advanced water-efficient cooling.

The Nakota Data Campus is situated on approximately 620 acres in North Dakota’s energy corridor. The project’s power strategy centers on behind-the-meter generation using Baker Hughes turbine technology capable of utilizing hydrogen-rich fuel blends. This approach leverages natural gas resources that would otherwise be flared, converting waste energy into reliable power for AI training and inference.

To address the high water demands of modern AI hardware, the campus will implement a closed-loop liquid cooling system. This technology requires only an initial water fill and continuous recirculation, dramatically reducing the need for constant freshwater consumption compared to traditional evaporative cooling methods.

The project addresses the three primary bottlenecks currently facing the AI industry: power grid strain, carbon intensity, and water scarcity.
