The project pairs a massive 2.88-gigawatt natural gas power plant and a 700 MW battery storage system with a co-located hyperscale AI data center campus. The development highlights how AI infrastructure developers are turning to dedicated fossil fuel generation to bypass electric power grid capacity constraints.

Key details

Under the agreement with a local landowner group, ONE Nuclear Energy secured site control near the RiverPlex MegaPark along the Mississippi River. Project Cayman features a 2.88-gigawatt natural gas-fired power plant paired with a 700-megawatt, 2.88-gigawatt-hour battery energy storage system (BESS). The site will co-locate a high-capacity AI data center campus directly adjacent to the generation assets.

Despite the developer's name, no nuclear reactors are currently planned for the initial facility. Located in Ascension Parish, the campus is situated near major industrial projects and new high-voltage transmission lines being built by Entergy. The dedicated power architecture is designed to supply continuous, dispatchable energy to high-density compute racks without relying on public utility allocations.

Why this matters

Hyperscale AI data centers require continuous, gigawatt-scale power that public utility grids struggle to supply. By building an off-grid natural gas plant and battery storage system directly alongside compute infrastructure, ONE Nuclear bypasses multi-year utility interconnection queues.
