While Google successfully reduced its operational emissions (Scope 1 and 2) by 2% through record clean energy procurement, its total greenhouse gas emissions rose by 18% to 14.47 million metric tons of CO2 equivalent. This spike was largely attributed to a 25% increase in supply chain emissions (Scope 3) related to AI infrastructure manufacturing.
Water usage also climbed significantly. Google's water stewardship projects replenished 7.7 billion gallons in 2025, which represents 78% of its total freshwater consumption. This indicates a total freshwater withdrawal of approximately 9.87 billion gallons, while total water consumption across all sources reached 10.869 billion gallons—a 34% increase from 2024.
