According to ConstructConnect's September 2026 Data Center Report, data centers now represent nearly one-quarter of all nonresidential building construction in the country.

The report highlights that data centers are increasing in financial cost much faster than in physical footprint. For year-to-date projects with known pricing and dimensions, the average data center project cost reached $1.06 billion and spanned 701,000 square feet.
