More than 7,000 residents have signed a petition against the project in just two months. Local farmers, including Tim Schafer, have raised additional concerns about noise pollution affecting livestock production and reproduction, as well as potential PFAS contamination and light pollution. Maryville Mayor John McBride has also publicly stated his opposition to the plan.

Scale Microgrids is expected to announce by the end of June 2026 whether it will proceed with the White Cloud Acres development.
